How to Choose the Right Leak Detection Rope
Leak detection ropes are mainly divided into spiral ropes and flat wires, each with its unique advantages and applicable scenarios. The appropriate solution should be selected based on the actual usage scenario.
Spiral ropes are suitable for scenarios such as data centers and server rooms where equipment is densely packed. They can accurately detect potential vertical dripping risks around pipes and under ceilings, as well as in complex environments with many ground obstructions and high dust levels. They have strong anti-interference capabilities and are suitable for flexible installation scenarios that require overhead or around equipment installation.
Flat wires are suitable for scenarios such as warehouses and factories with flat and open floors. They are ideal for large-scale coverage of underground garages and server room floors with high concealment requirements, long-distance protection (such as corridors and passages), and environments with limited budgets and no need for precise location. They are also suitable for clean floors with few obstructions to reduce false alarm risks.
Depending on the monitoring requirements, the decision to choose a positioning function should also be considered. Non-positioning types are suitable for small-scale monitoring and are relatively economical. The 4mm specification is soft and easy to install, while the 5mm specification is more durable. Positioning types are suitable for large-scale monitoring or scenarios requiring precise location of the leak point. The 6mm specification comes in both hard and soft materials. The hard type has a high fire resistance rating and has passed multiple international certifications, while the soft type is easier to install on-site.
Working principle and maintenance points: Leak detection ropes detect leaks by monitoring the resistance changes in two conductive polymer wires. Under normal conditions, they maintain a fixed resistance value. When water is present, the wires short-circuit, causing a current change that triggers an alarm. Positioning types calculate the precise location of the leak based on resistance changes. For spiral ropes, it is recommended to regularly clean the surface dust and check the firmness of overhead fixation. For flat wires, regularly wipe the ground contact parts, remove oil stains and dust, and regularly test the system function to ensure reliability.
